Here’s how you can make pizza dough in your bread machine at home. This recipe creates a pizza crust that is soft and delicious, and the secret ingredient is beer!
For this Bread Machine Pizza Dough, I’m using my Zojirushi bread machine – which is more than 20 years old now! It’s quite amazing how long this bread machine has lasted.
How do you make pizza dough with a bread machine?
Here’s everything you’ll need to get started.

- Liquid measuring cup for measuring and stirring beer to get the bubbles out
- Pastry brush for brushing the pizza dough with olive oil
- 12-inch pizza pan
- Pizza cutter
Ingredients in this recipe

- Active dry yeast
- Beer
- Butter
- Sugar
- Salt
Making the Pizza Dough
Most of the hard work for this pizza dough will be done by the bread machine, which is awesome. Just start the dough about a couple hours before you’d like to serve the pizza. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s directions on the best order for adding your ingredients to the breadmaker baking pan.
Once the dough is ready, turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a ball. You can then divide this ball in half to make two smaller balls for thin crust pizza (roughly similar to hand-tossed style from some common frozen pizzas), or make one thick crust pizza. You’ll need to increase the baking time if going with the thick crust.
Press the dough into a lightly greased pizza pan, making the thickness of the dough consistent throughout so that it will bake evenly. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then you’re ready to go!
Brush the crust with olive oil and top with your favorite sauce, cheese, and other toppings! I love using fresh mozzarella and a blend of Italian cheese plus some homemade marinara. A white pizza with fresh arugula and tomatoes is delicious as well!

In the order listed above, add the ingredients to the baking pan, making sure to sprinkle the yeast on top of the flour.
Run the dough cycle on your bread machine.
After the cycle is complete, remove the dough from the pan and place it on a lightly floured surface.
Form the dough into a ball. For a thin crust pizza: divide the dough in half; press it into a 12-inch pizza pan. Otherwise, for a thicker crust, use the entire ball of dough and press into the pizza pan. Cover and let sit for 15 minutes.
Brush the pizza crust with olive oil. Add your favorite toppings and bake at 400 degrees F for 10-15 minutes for thin crust, or 20-25 minutes for thick crust. Let the pizza cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Recipe Notes:
- To make the beer flat before adding to the bread machine baking pan, measure 1 cup into a large glass. Stir vigorously and let it sit for a minute or two. Repeat this a couple times until the beer starts to lose its foaminess.
- For this recipe, I used Corona Extra and it came out great. You can use whatever beer you like, keeping in mind it will influence the flavor of the pizza crust.
